ABOUT CHILE

Chile is a very diverse country. You could say that it concentrates all the landscapes that exist on the planet through its long and narrow land mass. Chile has the driest desert in the world in the north and millenary glaciers in the extreme south. The pacific ocean along the West side and the imposing “Cordillera de Los Andes” along the East side. A modern capital city, Santiago, and many islands with hidden ancient secrets.

In this mosaic of colors and shapes, the majestic “Sur Austral” is known for its Regions “de los Rios” (of the Rivers) and “de los Lagos” (of the Lakes). This beautiful landscape is one of the most spectacular, surrounded by “Araucarias” (a sacred tree of the “Mapuche” Natives) that existed since the Jurassic era. This area is gifted with a diverse landscape, with its lakes that were formed during the last glacial time and temperate forests with species that are hundreds of years old. All this is accompanied by the coast´s charm, farms, islands and native foods like “Chupe de Mariscos” (made of seafood) “Cazuelas” (a vegetable and meat/chicken soup) and “Curantos” (mix of seafood and vegetables).

Puerto Montt, the capital of the region “De los Lagos” is one of the most populated cities in the south of Chile. Puerto Montt is also the beginning point of the Chilean Island maritime territory where the nature is intact and its channels and archipelagos can be enjoyed.

The river “Futaleufú” is known worldwide amongst those that love adventures especially those that enjoy rafting because it is known to be one of biggest challenges to go down it.

Chiloe is one of the two largest islands in South America. It’s the land of legends, myths and sorcerers, and is built with a community that still maintains its costumes and traditions from years ago. Chiloe is famous for its traditional architecture, with numerous wooden churches- a legendary work made by the Jesuits and Franciscan´s- from which 16 of them have been declared “World Heritage” sites from UNESCO. It is also known for its houses remodeled in wooden tiles and its traditional houses built on top of stilts, called “Palafitos.”

The Chilean “Patagonia” includes 132 thousand square kilometers of islands, chanels, snowdrifts and glaciers that come from the feet of the top of the “Cordillera” mountain. There are ships that offer trips to lands of ice, like the San Rafael Glacier that is more than 30 thousand years old. In “Tierra del Fuego” there are enormous livestock farms and the development of gold extraction.

The Antartic territory was defined in 1940. It extends down to the South Pole, where five military bases are in place and a civilian establishment that provides important scientific activity.
